Mundrabilla Road House
Note the Cattle Grid (see below) on the access road from the North - South air strip.

We parked the 172 in the Caravan park much to the amusement of several campers.

In the out back, you expect anything.

Mundrabilla

Typical of the country along the Nullarbor Plain.

Mundrabilla is towards the western half of the Nullarbor Plain and is in the state of Western Australia.

Mundrabilla Motel is not aviation friendly due to the poor access and the large clearance requirements of a light aircraft.
Aircraft such as the C182 fitted with 2 bladed propellors or having minimal propellor clearance are advised not to enter into the Road House area because of undulations in the road way. (Bush tracks)

Low Wing and Tail Draggers are advised that fence height either side of the Cattle Grid will restrict  passage of these aircraft types from the landing area to the Road House.

While we made it through the Cattle Grid (Twice) I would not take any aircraft through there again due to low and variable clearances and rough and uneven ground.

The Motel does offer a pick up service from the airstrip.

Crossing the grid
Crossing the grid

Filling the gap

An abrupt change in the level between the road on the North side of the grid prevented the aircraft from taxiing back over the rails until the gap was filled in with loose road gradings.

Variations in surface heights cause the horizontal stabilizer to wobble dangerously close to the top of the fence panels either side of the grid.

The necessity for higher than normal power levels for taxiing in these conditions is also likely to produce propellor damage from loose stones.

Compared to all the other airstrips we used, this was certainly the least aircraft friendly. No Avgas is available although we used this stop to transfer internal fuel stocks to the wing tanks.

Such partial refueling stops must allow for an additional flight sector, ie. another stage of Decent, Taxi, and Climb to cruise level.
